Steelers 12/22

If there is one thing to be said about the Steelers, it's this: Ben Roethlisberger is a fighter. This might be more easily said since he is the leader of a potent offense, but he is a fighter (as opposed to being a hapless Safety on a depleted defense).
Five hundred plus yards must have been scoffed at after we first drafted Ben due to the fact that Steelers have traditionally been a run-first team. It also might have scared people back in '04 because in 2003 the Steelers went 6-10 from being a pass-first team with Tommy Maddox.
The fact of the matter though, is that Roethlisberger is at the caliber of a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, and if the Steelers want to continue to win, they must depend on the passing game to set up the run and not vice versa.
Some plays that need to be brought back to fruition: The RB screen (With Roethlisberger's pump-fake this is a perfect set-up), Gadget plays of any kind and More crossing patterns with Holmes and Wallace.
Draft Needs: Ndamukong Suh as a viable trade upwards in the draft to replace the aging and often ineffective Hampton, O-lineman and more O-lineman, a shut-down corner, 3-7th round backup QB to replace Batch, etc.

Things I am not a fan of...

-Quoting song lyrics in any sort of social network status, the song in all likelihood does not relate to you, nor was it probably used in the right context
-While on the topic of social networking status's writing that your getting drunk or high, especially if your under the age of 21 is especially annoying. Chances are though, that person usually has one or more underages
-Spiders
-People who don't read, or think that is stupid to do so
-People who like to argue about politics (are you really going to change the other person's mind? Lets be honest here)
-Freshman who get on the bus to go one stop (in reality it takes the bus longer to get there than it would have if said person would have walked the two blocks)
-Rowing crew
-Stories involving vampires and teenagers, and those who obsess over their fictitious characters
-People who are fans of other sports teams, especially from Philadelphia. This is not because of a PSU rivalry, it is because when your football team has zero rings, and your other teams are chronic underachievers, you earn no right to brag or to talk trash on other teams. Case in point, I would not brag about the steelers at such a point in time as now.
-Arguing in general
-Beer
-Blaming things on being drunk
-Sex and the City
-Not being able to find things
-Things left unsaid
-Not saying what you really think (however I'm perfectly okay with doing this myself, I prefer to come off as completely average and boring)
-People complaining about homework, studying, or work in general (at this point you signed up for whatever it is you are doing, tough shit for you)
-People with underdeveloped tastes in music, books, or pop culture. People should never half-ass anything and shame on anyone who does

Stop Getting Invested

I've taken a new approach.
It's worked with the Steelers and Penguins, and it's going to work with Penn State. It's my last year here, and when I graduate this strategy will be implemented to a further extent. It's this:
let go of the obsession over football.
stop caring about wins and losses. PSU is never going to be a world-beater at football and that's the way the football universe works. The Steelers on the other hand....they never seem to let me down. The Penguins do, but all is forgiven the few years after a championship. Hopefully we can make it down to Arizona and get a nice change or scenery so I don't have to freeze to death after yelling for no reason all day.

Update:
The Steelers have been swept by the Bengals for the regular season. This really comes down to them losing the AFC north, however, being an almost-22-year-old adult has let me let this go already.

Part 2:
The Penguins are good again scoring 11 points in their last two games. This is all without half the starting lineup. Knock on wood.

The New Kindle

The newest kindle is awesome. No two ways about that. Anyone who complains about it is either a) an asshat who claims "I don't read" or b) Has bigger issues. Not only is it saving me over five dollars a book, it makes it easier to read with bigger font and saves me shipping costs. Also it saves me lugging around an extra pound or two per book. I've flown through the three of four books I've read and it has almost swayed my opinion of electronic readers.

My English 202a teacher yesterday decided to single it out saying that it would destroy libraries. Really? The Ipod may have gotten rid of CD's, but libraries will adapt. They always have, and not everyone will like the idea of a kindle. It's much harder to fathom than music. Isn't everything moving in that direction anyhow? Newspapers and blogs are people's main source of information and those are both mainly online now. It was the next eventual step, and its only going to grow.
